Day Trip to the Artists’ Landscapes: Vuonislahti and Paateri Museum
No need for your own car on this trip! Join us for a refreshing excursion for both mind and body, starting from the Koli harbor and heading into the idyllic scenery and stories of Vuonislahti village. The journey begins aboard a traditional wooden boat, gliding over the stunning blue waves of Lake Pielinen. A professional skipper will take you to the to the Paateri Museum.
The unforgettable and globally renowned wooden sculptures by sculptor Eva Ryynänen — along with her studio, home, church, and café — are all testaments to her remarkable craftsmanship. At Paateri, a guide will share the memorable life story of Eva and her husband Paavo. Take a moment to relax in the Paateri café, where you can enjoy handmade, sourdough-based treats and specialty coffees.
The trip continues with a self-guided hike from Paateri back to Vuonislahti harbor along the Paateri Trail (5,2 km). Along the route, you’ll encounter the needle-like Koiraniemi Peninsula, shaped by the Ice Age, with a campfire spot at its tip. You'll also pass by “Tytönniitty,” a meadow familiar from the novel Simpauttaja, and the childhood home of author Heikki Turunen. Set aside about 2 hours for the hike, including breaks.
At 1:30 PM, the cruise ship M/S Marival II will take you back to Koli from Vuonislahti harbor. Onboard, you can enjoy café delicacies and, if you wish, a soup lunch.
These trips are organized in July 2025, every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, starting July 1st and ending July 31st.
